The president of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Domínguez, wants the match between Brazil and Argentina to be played for the South American qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, which was suspended. FIFA has yet to decide what to do with the match.

The duel on September 5 in Sao Paulo was stopped after seven minutes after the Brazilian health authorities entered the field to remove the four Argentine footballers who did not respect the coronavirus protocols. Because they came from Great Britain, they should have been quarantined.

“We believe that the games should be defined on the court,” Domínguez said during an interview Monday on radio station 970 AM. He added that the fate of the meeting does not concern his body.

The Argentine quartet – Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez and Emiliano Buendía, as well as Tottenham’s Giovanni Lo Celso and Cristian Romero – are under investigation by Brazilian authorities for allegedly giving false information upon arrival. Britain is on Brazil’s red list for COVID-19 risk.
