The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has taken an important step towards the success of Mission Gaganyaan. ISRO on Wednesday conducted the third successful long-duration hot test of the Liquid Propellant Vikas Engine. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk congratulated ISRO for this huge success. Reacting to ISRO’s tweet, he wrote ‘Congratulations’. Also, he put an emoji of the flag of India.

ISRO said that this test was done for the L 110 liquid level of the GSLV Mk 3 vehicle as per the engine qualification requirement for the mission. The engine was launched for 240 seconds at the test center at ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu. The engine served the test purpose and lived up to the standard specifications.

What is Gaganyaan Mission?
Gaganyaan is India’s first manned mission to be sent to space. Its purpose is to show the ability to send humans to low Earth orbit and bring them back from an Indian launch vehicle.

Gaganyaan’s mission was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Red Fort on 15 August 2018. About 10 thousand crore rupees will be spent on the mission. For this, the Union Cabinet had approved in 2018 itself. ISRO has tied up with Glavkosmos, the Russian space agency.

Four Indian Air Force officers, including one Group Captain and three Wing Commanders, have been selected for the mission, having completed training in Russia for 1 Group Captain and 3 Wing Commanders. He has completed his one-year training in the city of Zvozdny Gorodok, Russia. Also two flight surgeons are taking training in Russia and France.

Gaganyaan module will be trained in Bangalore
ISRO scientists had told that after taking training in Russia, these four Gaganauts will be given training of Gaganyaan module in Bengaluru. This module has been made by ISRO itself. No other country’s help has been taken in this.

There may be delay in the mission,
ISRO had earlier said to send the Gaganyaan mission by December 2021. At the same time, the time of December 2020 and July 2021 was fixed for the unmanned mission. Union Space Minister Jitendra Singh had said in February this year that the first unmanned mission is set to be completed in December 2021. A second unmanned mission is planned in 2022-23 and thereafter manned spacecraft.
