The lady came from the UK, where the new variant of coronavirus strain has been detected. It is unclear whether or not she was tested positive for an older or new strain but officers said they can’t afford to take any risk

This happened despite commonplace operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Union Health Ministry for individuals traveling from the UK in wake of a new fast-spreading strain of the novel coronavirus found there.

Three of them were traced and admitted to Lok Nayak hospital in New Delhi shortly on December 22. Two others — one who had reached Andhra Pradesh and another who had reached Ludhiana, Punjab — were brought back on December 23, the newspaper reported.

The 46-year-recent man had managed to leave the Delhi airport unnoticed and reach Ludhiana, where he checked himself into a private hospital.

The ministry of civil aviation has said passengers from the UK can mandatorily bear RT-PCR checks on arrival at the airport.

All passengers and crew will be tested on arrival by Genestrings, regardless of exemptions and existing negative reports in view of this new virus strain,” said the private laboratory tasked with testing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

The passengers can be expected to stay at the airport while the report is awaited. The IGI Airport has arranged a separate waiting lounge so that there is no scope of transmission.

If the RT-PCR report is found to be positive, a passenger can be immediately shifted into institutional quarantine for an amount of seven days. If found negative, the passenger can be needed to isolate at home for seven days.

The officers told the daily the lady’s behavior was dangerous as she may return to bear with numerous people in her nearly 1,800 km journey. The family told the police the woman would reach Rajahmundry by the first hours of Thursday. Railway officials are informed.
